The Black and White Budget was a weekly periodical running during the Second Boer War. It stated "Our large staff of Special Correspondents in South Africa are now sending home pictures which, from the point of view of accuracy and picturequeness, are absolutely unrivalled. The BEST pictures by the BEST men."
The magazine reflected the mood and spirit of the time, very rhetorical, jingoistic and bombastic. Those of you familiar with the gung-ho nature of the British tabloids during the Falklands and Gulf conflicts would be surprised by the rhetoric in this journal.
The photographs are good but do not scan well from the magazine, I hope they are of interest.
Just the three here. Australian troops on the troopship India, the Kimberley Rifles and the Natal Royal Rifles staff (HQ ORs).
Well over 50 photographs over a number of pages. The first link will take you to an index.
